Hiroshima Peace Memorial:
The Hiroshima Peace Memorial is in Hiroshima, Japan. It Is commonly called the Atomic Bomb Dome. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. Atomic Bomb Dome is the very few buildings that survived through the very harsh bombing. It is a symbol of Peace. This is a memorial to the people that were killed during the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. It was first designed by a Czech architect in 1915. People says that you can still feel the horror and pain of the people that were killed.

Atomic Bombing
It all started on August 6, 1945, 8:10 am, when the streets were quiet in Hiroshima. An American group called Enola Gay, dropped the the atomic bomb .3 miles above Hiroshima cities. Once dropped, it made an unexpected flash and explosion for those living in Hiroshima. The bomb exploded 600 miles long or 1800 feet long. People that was under the bomb and near close to it, instantly died and many were very injured. About 140,000 people died and they were mostly civilians. Then 3 days later on August 9, 1945, at 11:02 am, the Americans dropped another bomb on Nagasaki. It was 1,650 feat above Nagasaki Cities. About 60,000 through 80,000 people died.
Affects on the Citizens
The atomic bomb left a big affect on the citizens in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. People were knocked down and unconscious when the bomb exploded. People were mostly burned to death. Some people had there arms stretched out, and their skin was pealing and hanging from their bodies. The bomb also gave out a very bad, and strong smell on the people. The cities were felt burned for two days. Soon in September and October, people kept dying because they got red blotches under their skin called radiation poisoning.
Children Peace Memorial
The bomb also affected the next generation kids too. Adults that had radiation poisoning, it moved to the kids too. The kids were discriminated, and so they were getting bullied a lot. Those kids were called "A-Bomb Children'.
The Children Peace Memorial honors a girl named Sadako Sasaki and the kids who died during the atomic bomb. This is located in Hiroshima, Japan.This Memorial is also called "Tower of a Thousand Cranes." There are thousands of folded paper cranes that are offered there. Sadako Sasaki was two when the atomic bomb happened. She died of leukemia ten years later. Her classmates called for a "build a monument to mourn all the children who died from the atomic bomb." Student from more than 3,100 schools in Japan and out of countries helped build this monument. It is 9 meters high, and on top of the memorial there stands a girl holding up a gold-colored 'folded" crane. On the side of the monument there is a girl and a boy symbolizing a bright future and hope. There is a stone under the monument saying 'This is our cry. This is our prayer. For building peace in this world.' This was completed in May 5, 1958.
Fountain of Peace
The Fountain of Peace is in the Peace Garden in Nagasaki, Japan. This fountain of Peace is in a shape of a dove's wings. This honors the people who had suffered without water and begging for water. It is also for those who died in the bomb and people who died on undrinkable water. It is a symbol of peace in the world.
